Waitrose have responded, and it's good news! They are going to get the label changed on the Bombay Mix...
Thank you for your query regarding the allergen labeling on our Bombay
Snack Mix and I am really sorry that this has caused concern for you and
your daughter.
Please find below the response from our nutritionist.
As your daughter has correctly pointed out, because wheat flour is listed
as an ingredient, gluten should be listed in the allergen box. From
speaking to our supplier, it appears that a small amount of wheat flour is
contained in the baking powder which is used as a raising agent to make
the noodles in the mix. As the flour is present at such a low level, the
error occurred as it was assumed that gluten did not need to be labelled.
This conflicts with the requirements for food labeling and we will be
correcting this as soon as possible.
Thank you for highlighting this to us and thank you to your daughter for
her blogging. The photos made it really easy for me to track down what the
problem was and has meant that we can focus our attention on correcting
this as quickly as we can.
Kind regards
